Ladies and gentlemen (tumbleweeds, mostly),

Valve has confirmed today at E3 that Left4Dead 2 has been in development for some time now and will be released later this year (November 17, 2009)!

Quote:
"A large part of how Left 4 Dead became 2008's top-selling new IP on Xbox 360 and the PC was the custom-tailored gameplay made possible by the AI Director," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "With the knowledge gained from creating the original, new technology, and a passionate team, L4D2 will set a new benchmark for cooperative action games."

"Left 4 Dead was backed by our most aggressive advertising campaign to date, and resulted in a top 5 showing on two platforms during holiday 2008," said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve. "Left 4 Dead 2 is a larger game and will be supported with even more consumer and retail advertising programs than the original."
Box art has already been released, as well.

More goodies:
--Melee weapons, not weapon functions (axe, frying pan, etc).
--AI Director 2.0, featuring huge improvements over the original.
--More pre-packaged modes, maps, and new players to use -- less downloadable content, but a hell of a lot less wait time for more to do.
--360 and PC exclusive, like the original.
--Obviously a lot more!

This is a landmark day for Valve, and it's only Day 1 of E3! :-D

I'm happy and a little bit pissed at this. Its not even a year after release and they're making a sequal? What about l4d one? No more DLC? It was already really scanty content wise and now it seems like I have to pay another 50 bucks to get the rest.

Yeah -- they're not doing a Team Fortress 3 like this, or anything.

Hope this is a one-time mess-up, like the pyro update. :-P

Still -- good to get some fresh blood on the table.

Ok, what the F***. Why isn't this just DLC or at least just an expansion? and do i seriously have to pay another 50$ for this? making the 50$ i already spent on L4D a total waste of money. I can think of TONS of other things i could have spent that 50$ on...

Most likely porn.

I think for L4D users that the game should be like a free exp. pack or at least half price or something.

I prefer achievements over random drops. I'm probably just perpetuating this but apparently the reason Valve is doing this is some sort of bad blood with EA over the handling of L4D 1 so in order to free their hands they're making l4d 2 without EA involved.
